Vehicle Tracking via GPS, SIM, Smartphone

We can’t get a location of a truck with GPS on trip level tracking basis.

GPS Tracking

To enable GPS tracking, following is done:

  1. The GPS provider is on-boarded into Freight Tiger against a transporter or a consignor.

    1. This steps needs FT involvement because FT needs to map the API response of the GPS Provider so that FT can interpret the data in the API response. Data format for each GPS provider is unique.

  2. GPS provider gives a credentials (an encrypted key or a user id/password) to Freight Tiger

  3. FT Application uses the transporter/consignor's credentials to query the GPS provider

  4. FT gets the location data set for all trucks for on-boarded transporter-GPS provider every 10 minutes

While we don't dynamically onboard trucks at trip level, as long as it is added against an already on-boarded {Org, GPS Provider} combination, we are able to track it. We don't have to onboard each truck separately.

We aren't able to track trucks for whom the Org<>Provider on-boarding hasn't been done.

Provided the on-boarding is done, we track the GPS trucks 24/7. We don't tie the location tracking to a trip for GPS tracking. The locations are polled continuously at a fixed frequency for GPS integrations. Only in case of SIM tracking, we track only for the duration of a trip.

SIM Tracking

SIM based tracking is done where the SIM card of the driver is used to locate a vehicle. The truck is tracked from the time consent is given by driver to trip closure. Driver consent is taken at the start of each trip.

Location Display

On FT UI,

  1. My Trips show live-location of each trip

  2. My Trucks shows live even if trip is not started.
